We
arrived in Wellington around tea-time and, sadly, had to leave before breakfast
the next day to catch the ferry to the South Island, so our visit didn’t did
the city justice. However, even in that short time we had some wonderful
moments.
For
eating the hotel concierge recommended the Dockside eatery down at the harbour.
The place was buzzing and being our first Friday in NZ, we had to have our
first fish and chips of our trip. Live music, lots of chat amongst the diners,
and glass floors looking down on the water’s edge – a memorable experience.
After
a wander around the harbour-side, we meandered off to locate a few more
geocaches and found ourselves at the railway station. What a delight, what an
experience. While it’s not on the same scale as Grand Central New York, it’s
equally delightful. Stunning architecture, clean, tidy, much as we imagine
Britain might have been at some stage in the past. And they even had a Harry
Potter platform!
